Circumcision (Adults & Children)

A quick, safe day-care procedure for phimosis, recurrent infections and related foreskin problems — for both adults and children, with complete privacy.

Circumcision & Foreskin Problems

What is circumcision?

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin. In medical practice it treats phimosis (a tight foreskin that cannot retract), paraphimosis, recurrent balanitis (infections under the foreskin), and related hygiene problems — in men of any age and in children. It is one of the oldest and safest procedures in surgery when done properly under sterile conditions.

Diagnosis

How is it diagnosed?

A brief, private examination is all that is needed. In diabetics — where recurrent balanitis and phimosis are common — we also check sugar control, because treating both gives the best outcome.

Treatment Options

Your treatment options, honestly explained

Non-surgical management

Mild phimosis in children often improves with time and steroid creams, and we counsel honestly when waiting is right. In adults with established scarring or recurrent infections, creams rarely give lasting relief.

Surgical treatment at Bawa Hospital

Circumcision at Bawa Hospital is a 20–30 minute day-care procedure under local or short general anaesthesia, using stapler (ZSR-type) or conventional technique as appropriate. Stapler circumcision means minimal bleeding, a neat ring closure and quick return to routine. You go home the same day.

We recommend surgery only when it is genuinely the best option for you — and explain why, in plain language, before you decide.

Recovery

What recovery looks like

Day 0

Day-care procedure; home within hours.

Day 2–3

Most daily activity and desk work resume.

Week 1

Dressing off; healing well established.

Week 3–4

Complete healing; intimacy usually cleared from 4 weeks.

Timelines are typical for uncomplicated cases — your surgeon will give you a personalised plan.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is circumcision painful?

The procedure itself is painless under anaesthesia. Discomfort afterwards is mild and controlled with simple painkillers — most adults are back at work within two to three days.

Stapler or conventional — which is better?

Stapler (ZSR) circumcision is quicker with minimal bleeding and a neat result, and suits most adults. Conventional technique remains preferable in certain anatomies and in small children. We advise after examining you.

My child’s foreskin does not retract — is that abnormal?

In young boys a non-retractile foreskin is usually normal and resolves with age. Surgery is indicated for true scarred phimosis, ballooning, recurrent infections or urinary problems — we will tell you honestly which one your child has.

I am diabetic and keep getting foreskin infections. Will circumcision help?

Very often, yes — recurrent balanitis in diabetics is one of the commonest medical reasons for adult circumcision, alongside better sugar control which we help coordinate.
